Yanagawa Naoharu Menuki

A wonderful set of menuki in silver, signed Yanagawa Naoharu. The workmanship on these menuki is beautiful and they have a lovely patina. The design is of a pair of horse bits. I purchased this set for my personal collection, and never bothered to submit them to shinsa quite frankly because I didn’t care. I liked them for the theme and workmanship.

They are high relief and the backs have the original posts intact. You can see the depth of the design providing a great 3d perspective and great detail. The patina is very even in coverage and tone. There is a tanzaku (signature plate) on the back of one; Yanagawa Naoharu and his monogram. A fitted box with hakogaki inside dated May 6 th, 1940 notes these as Yanagawa Naoharu menuki.
